News—SVD Farm conducts blessing for Grotto of the Virgin of the Poor, miniature statues of Mary, to conclude Flores de Mayo
Tagaytay City—The SVD Laudato Si' Farm concluded the celebration of Flores de Mayo last May 28, 2023, with a blessing at the Grotto of the Virgin of the Poor, located next to the Chapel of the Virgin of the Poor. The celebration began at 3:00 PM with a solemn Holy Mass at the Chapel, which was followed by the blessing of the image of the Blessed Mother at the Grotto.
The event, which also coincided with the celebration of Pentecost Sunday, was attended by many attendees eager to pay homage to the Blessed Virgin Mary, some of whom are first-timers to the Farm and others who have been visiting the Farm for a long time.
Flores de Mayo, literally translated as "Flowers of May," is a cherished Filipino tradition held throughout the month of May, dedicated to expressing reverence and devotion to the Virgin Mary. The celebration of Flores de Mayo at the SVD Farm is closely tied to the Farm’s devotion to the Blessed Mother, in particular to her title as Virgin of the Poor.
After the Holy Mass ended at around 4:00 PM, Rev. Fr. Atilano Corcuera, Jr., SVD, led the much-awaited blessing of the Grotto. After the blessing, attendees offered flowers to the Virgin Mary while being accompanied by Marian songs.
In a heartfelt message, Frt. Karl Cabanalan, SVD, expressed his gratitude to all those who participated in the conclusion of Flores de Mayo at the SVD Farm. He warmly welcomed the first-timers to the event, urging them to return for future celebrations. Frt. Karl also expressed immense gratitude to regular visitors to the Farm for their unwavering support.
The image of the Virgin of the Poor holds a special place as the patron of the SVD Farm, said Frt. Cabanalan. He acknowledged the generous benefactors whose support has made the Farm, especially the Chapel and the Grotto, possible.
During his message, Frt. Cabanalan presented miniature statues of the Virgin of the Poor, in various sizes. These statues are available at the Farm’s Souvenir Shop, beside the Oies Kitchenette.
After Frt. Cabanalan’s message, priests from the SVD-Tagaytay Community gave a blessing to all attendees, which was followed by a communal prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of peace and unity, as the participants sang a solemn rendition of the Hail Mary.
The Flores de Mayo celebration at the SVD Farm exemplified the Farm’s devotion to the Virgin of the Poor. As the event concluded, visitors departed with hearts full of joy and grace.
