Tagaytay City—As part of the celebration of Elderly Filipinos Week, a team of representatives from Philippine Airlines (PAL) embarked on a heartwarming visit to the SVD Laudato Si’ Farm to offer their support to the Farm’s elderly farmers.
During their visit last October 4, 2023, the PAL team distributed jackets and hats to the SVD Farm’s elderly farmers as tokens of their admiration and respect.
Ms. Pinky Balagtas, who led the PAL delegation during their visit to the SVD Farm, expressed her delight upon meeting the SVD Farm’s elderly farmers, saying, "Nakakatuwang makita na nandiyan sila, na malakas pa sila, na masaya sila sa ginagawa nila. Nawawala na ang farming—they're here to keep it going."
Ms. Pinky underlined the critical role of farmers in providing nutritious sustenance for the community and offered gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your contributions to the community. Kung wala ang farmers na katulad ninyo, walang masustansyang pagkain. Thank you for keeping us healthy. Sana magtuloy-tuloy pa rin ang farming, sa tulong po ninyo."
During their visit, Ms. Pinky and her fellow PAL delegates spent some time and talked with the farmers at the kubo near the Gulayan ni San Rafael.
The visit from PAL representatives not only brought smiles to the faces of these dedicated elderly farmers but also served as a poignant reminder of the importance of acknowledging and supporting the unsung heroes who toil tirelessly to put food on our tables and nurture the land that sustains us all.

The celebration of Elderly Filipinos Week is a commemoration established by Proclamation No. 470, signed by then-President Fidel Ramos on September 26, 1994, occurring annually from October 1 to 7.
The soul of the SVD Farm are its farmers who tend the soil and ensure that the Farm has fresh and quality vegetables and other produce. Many of them are veterans in their field.
