News—SVD Farm partners with EcoWaste Coalition for sustainability and zero waste efforts

Tagaytay City—As part of its commitment to "zero waste," the SVD Laudato Si' Farm forged a strategic partnership with the EcoWaste Coalition during a stakeholders’ gathering last January 13, 2023, at the Farm’s Ecospirituality Center.

The collaborative initiative aims to leverage their combined expertise and resources to advance ecological conservation and promote responsible waste management practices.

The partnership was officially announced during the Stakeholder's Gathering For Sustainability and Zero Waste Collaboration, a significant event that brought together key stakeholders of the SVD Farm under the shared goal of “(breaking) free from plastic” to achieve the goal of “zero waste.”

Held at the Farm's Ecospirituality Center, the gathering showcased the shared vision of the SVD Farm and the EcoWaste Coalition to create a greener and more sustainable future.

At the heart of this alliance is Rev. Fr. Samuel “Sam” Naceno-Agcaracar, SVD, Executive Director of the SVD Farm and the Rector of the SVD-Tagaytay Community. Fr. Sam's unwavering dedication to environmental causes and ecospirituality has propelled the SVD Farm into a beacon of sustainable practices.

The EcoWaste Coalition, a distinguished non-governmental organization and environmental watchdog group renowned for its advocacy of chemical safety and zero waste, complements the SVD Farm's objectives perfectly. With a shared goal of nurturing the environment and reducing the ecological footprint, the collaboration promises innovative strategies and impactful initiatives.

The stakeholder's gathering provided an avenue for like-minded individuals and organizations to synergize their ideas and insights. Discussions were conducted, fostering an exchange of innovative solutions to prevalent environmental challenges.

As the collaboration between the SVD Farm and EcoWaste Coalition takes root, it is hoped that this shared commitment to ecological sustainability will inspire individuals, communities, and organizations across the nation to embrace a lifestyle that harmonizes with nature and treads lightly on the planet.

As the world grapples with the consequences of climate change and environmental degradation, partnerships like these serve as beacons of hope, demonstrating that by working hand in hand, humanity can mend its relationship with the Earth and pave the way for a brighter and greener future.

One of the SVD Farm’s six pillars of sustainability is that of sustainable energy. Along with the use of solar energy, this encompasses the practice of waste management, including the five R’s—“reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, and residual management.”

To highlight this importance, in a recent interview on the Masaganang Buhay TV program at TV5’s OnePH Cignal TV Channel 1 last July 16, 2023, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, Fr. Sam shared that the SVD Farm aspires to achieve zero waste management, ensuring that no resources go to waste and everything is used for more meaningful purposes.

“Ang lifestyle na isinusulong namin (ay) zero waste management in the future. … Walang masasayang dapat. Ang bawat tapon ay magagamit sa masmahalagang bagay. This is what we’re trying to achieve in the near future,” he shared.
