News—Scalabrinian missionary delegates visit the SVD Farm, collaborate for sustainable organic farming

Tagaytay City—Delegates from the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo, also known as the Scalabrinian Missionaries, visited the SVD Laudato Si' Farm.

In the morning of September 14, 2023, the Scalabrinian delegates went on a tour of the SVD Farm, accompanied by Rev. Fr. Samuel “Sam” Naceno-Agcaracar, SVD, Executive Director of the SVD Farm and Rector of the SVD-Tagaytay Community.

The Scalabrinian delegates were welcomed with warm hospitality as they embarked on a comprehensive tour of the SVD Farm's eco-friendly practices and sustainable farming techniques.

This visit marked the second time the Scalabrinian Missionaries had graced the SVD Farm with their presence. Their return was a testament to the profound impact the farm had on them during their initial visit.

Ms. Nenelyn "Nene" Vargas-Rodriguez, the SVD Farm’s agriculturist, led the Scalabrinian delegates as they toured the Farm’s production areas.

In a statement made after their visit, one of the delegates had remarked, "After the visit last time in SVD Farm, some of our priests were impressed and interested in how you do farming here. They would like to go back there to learn how you do it as they want to apply it in their own mission places."

During their tour, the Scalabrinian delegates had the opportunity to witness firsthand the innovative agricultural practices implemented at the SVD Farm. They explored the extensive organic fruit and vegetable plots, greenhouses and nursery, and livestock areas, all while engaging in insightful discussions with the resident SVD farmers.

The delegates were particularly interested in the Farm's holistic approach to agriculture, combining traditional methods with cutting-edge sustainable techniques, and expressed interest in applying similar farming practices in their own mission areas across the world.

As the Scalabrinian delegates bid farewell to the SVD Farm, they left with not only a deeper understanding of sustainable farming but also a strengthened bond of solidarity in the global mission to care for our common home.

The delegates were welcomed to the esteemed institution by founder and first Director of DWIMS, Rev. Fr. Edgar G. Javier, SVD. The orientation for the visit was also facilitated by Fr. Edgar at the DWIMS Piskaty Hall.
