News—"Let us embrace (Lent), not as something that restricts us but as something that opens up our hearts," says Fr. Stan Orečný, SVD, chaplain of the SVD Farm
Tagaytay City—The SVD Laudato Si' Farm began its solemn celebration of the Lenten season last February 14, 2024, with the Holy Mass at the Chapel of the Virgin of the Poor, presided over by Rev. Fr. Stanislav Orečný, SVD, Chaplain of the SVD Farm.
In his homily, Fr. Stan encouraged the congregation to reflect on the essence of authenticity in their Christian journey. He questioned the sincerity of individuals, urging them to ponder their roles as actors in their own lives.
"Sometimes, even as Christians, we are people with many faces. Somehow, we are not resistant to the sickness of being hypocrites. A hypocrite is (an) actor who knows how to play their role very well," remarked Fr. Stan, drawing attention to the dichotomy between outward actions and internal authenticity.
Fr. Stan emphasized the Lenten season's purpose, challenging believers to transcend the art of acting and instead focus on exercising authenticity as Christians. He also underlined the importance of being genuine examples for others, actively embodying the teachings of Jesus.
According to Fr. Stan, there are three instruments, intrinsically linked to one another, that contribute to the development of authenticity in the Lenten season.
The first instrument is generosity, urging individuals to extend support not only financially but also through human connections and kindness. The second instrument is prayer, considered a vital means to deepen one's relationship with God, understand personal identity, and foster openness towards others. The third instrument is the practice of fasting, which he asserted is significant in revealing true character and fostering focus on God and the needs of others.
Highlighting the connection between prayer, living, and fasting, Fr. Stan depicted these three instruments as “Lenten remedies” or a form of “Lenten medicine.” He said that embracing these practices would help individuals deepen their relationships with God and others, urging the congregation to perceive Lent as an opening of hearts rather than a restrictive period.
As the SVD Farm embarks on this Lenten season, the community is poised to engage in meaningful self-reflection and spiritual growth, embodying the principles of authenticity, generosity, prayer, and fasting.
